I am ashamed to admit that my first clue of the day was not from the news on the radio or my local paper which I actually DID open up and glance at in the McDonald’s drive through. Now that I look at it again I see that there is a gigantic photo of a Veteran’s Day parade and a caption that says in big type “Veterans Day“. Missed that because there is also a story about Hemingway letters being published. My first clue was the five minutes I spent in the bank drive-thru waiting for someone to notice my little Miata. They never do. It’s so dammed low to the ground I usually have to hit the call button. However, Islamorada being a hella small place, I have always suspected that they DO see me and make me wait because it amuses them to do that and island people are just that fucking wierd.
As I opened the car window to hit the button I saw the notice.
Closed November 11th for Veteran’s Day.
Huh. I thought today was November 10th, quite frankly. The construction workers adding the Gingerbread fake façade to the building were all staring. Not … in a mean way, but still …
So. Shamefaced and sheepish
I wish to thank all those who serve.
You are ten kinds of awesome and I thank God every day for people like you so that idiots like me can muddle through the day free to be clueless and distracted.
