Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-20) was on Face the Nation today and said: “Sarah Palin doesn’t know anything.” I went to her website to send her an email disagreeing with her. Here is what her Contact Me page says.
I am very interested in hearing your views on issues of importance to you. Due to the large volume of US Mail, email and faxes I receive, I am only able to accept messages from residents of the 20th Congressional District of Florida. Congressional courtesy dictates that Representatives be given the opportunity to assist their own constituents. If you are a resident of another district, I encourage you to contact your Representative in Congress by clicking the following link to the Write Your Representative Service.
In other words, don’t even bother sending her a letter or email because she could care less what you think if you can’t vote for or against her for office. To this I respond, “Why are you on a national tv program talking about issues that are outside the twentieth district of Florida then? If you don’t want to hear from people outside your district then keep your public comments limited to your own district.”
She was happy to tout the fact that she is a “Mini-van mom, mother of twins” who teaches her children to “tell the truth” and “Sarah Palin is a liar”. When former Massachusetts acting Gov. Jane Swift said something to the effect that personal attacks were not in the interest of the American voters, Wasserman Schultz grew even more bellicose in her insults. Swift tried to end it on a civil note “in case any of our kids are watching this program”. I bet they are, and they learned that name-calling is a-ok with mom. Demonstrating zero respect for a fellow politician (sustitute “Classmate”) is also just fine and dandy. It’s also ok to talk over someone who has been given a turn to talk because you disagree with them. What else does Wasserman Schultz teach her kids?
It was Wasserman Schultz who brought the kids into the discussion, btw. This reveals much about where the Democrats attack strategy is going. The kids are no longer off-limits. Sarah has kids. Debbie has kids. And Debbie is good with bringing her kids into the debate and holding them up as an example of the perfectly raised (will never tell a lie) kids. She might want to rethink that strategy, because kids are human and uniquely vulnerable. It is a bad idea to bring them into the snake pit with you. Most mom’s would never even consider it.
Texas Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson was polite, to the point and the more rude Wasserman Schultz became the more pained Hutchinson’s smile grew. It was clear she and Swift were uncomfortable with the introduction of children into the debate. They presented facts to address many of Wasserman Schultz’s erronious accusations against Palin but Wasserman Schultz’s response was to talk over them and call them liars, too. Wasserman Schultz said that the voters were not going to fall for Republicans not telling the truth anymore.
Ok. Well. If anyone could hear you as you were talking over speakers politely using their few minutes to answer your accusations then all they heard was another politician calling everyone (including a General in the U.S. Army) a liar. I’ll skip sending Wasserman Schultz a letter. She clearly doesn’t care what anyone else thinks — says so on her website and shows it in her public appearances.
I’d also rather not have her coming after my kids. Anyone see the men do that ever? I’m trying to think back through all the debates and shows I’ve watched and I come up with nada. Swift looked stunned when Wasserman Schultz said directly to her, “I’m the mother of twins and I know YOU are the mother of twins” — as if that meant they were the same somehow and should see eye to eye on everything. I can’t follow the logic of the Democrats. Aparently Sarah Palin “doesn’t know anything” because she has too many kids but Swift and Wasserman Schultz being mother’s of twins know enough to agree even when one is a Republican conservative and the other is a Democrat and an angry liberal. I don’t see how the kids bring anything at all into the logic stream. If this keeps up people will start wondering if all women aren’t just unhinged. I remember those days. Thanks for bringing them back people.

I missed the political shows this morning … probably for the best. I know myself enough that I can sense when I need to get away from TV Political News. From what you’re saying … I’m glad I did.
It’s fascinating. Sometimes I wonder if they even know what they are saying and doing anymore. they are so pissed they’ve begun a scorched earth campaign.
