Listening to the Obama Press Conference today the following words jarred me.
1. When asked about his lukewarm statements on Iran he said: “My role has been to say …” and then he went on to repeat that it’s not about the US, it’s about the Iranian people.
His “Role”?
2. When asked about the Health Care policy he said: “This policy is a tool to discipline insurance companies.” He then went on to mock directly the argument that private insurance has no chance of competing with a government “just printing money”.
I swear I could hear CEO’s of Insurance companies across the country either throwing up or opening a fresh bottle of whiskey – or both – as Obama said this. Discipline them? We are two.
3. When asked if his slightly more strident rhetoric on Iran was in any way influenced by McCain and Graham’s call for more overt condemnation, he said something to the effect that they are Senators with senatorial duties “but only I am the President of the United States.”
Only I … if his head swells any larger they will have to widen the doorways at the Whitehouse.
4. When asked if he saw the Neda video and if so what he thought of it he said he had seen it and: “When a young woman gets shot on the street getting out of her car — that’s a problem.”
It’s official. He completely creeps me out. But. Even creepier were the press corps giggling like little school kids at everything he said. Sick. Neda’s murder isn’t a “problem” it’s a tragedy of human proportions and of epic resonance. I think Obama was hatched and that’s why he has no original birth certificate on file. It is getting more and more painful to sit through his speeches and press conferences. I can’t even imagine what it’s like for the last few reporters there who can still reason for themselves. I was not the only one creeped out. Below are links to other sites discussing different parts of the twighlight zone hour. If you check the comments there you will see that I am not the only person he creeps out.

Conclusion: I’ve been highly critical about Obama’s lack of response on Iran; I think he did very well today. He condemned Iran in unequivocal and harsh terms. Charles Krauthammer says he finally “adopted McCain language,” and points out that Obama always claims consistency whenever he changes direction. Obama should have rescinded our offer of “weenie diplomacy,” which belies the tough talk. At least, though, Obama has caught up with most of the rest of the free world.
Makes me wonder if we heard the same things?

Even my happily in the Obama camp husband (I love him so let it go) thought that Only I comment was arrogant and over the top. When you start pissing off your most loyal voters, you’re in deep trouble.
Married to a liberal? That must be interesting.
I was thinking of adopting the Obama phraseology for myself, but I have an annoying need to make actual sense.
